About Bunurong Land Council

Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation (BLCAC) is the Registered Aboriginal Party (RAP) representing the Bunurong people of the South-Eastern Kulin Nation.

We advocate for the protection of Bunurong cultural heritage, the care of Country, and the wellbeing of our community and workforce across Greater Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula and the Bass Coast. Our work is grounded in culture, respect and strong governance.

About the Role

BLCAC is seeking a committed and community-minded Strong Country Ranger (Eastern Team) to support the protection, restoration and ongoing care of Bunurong Country.

Reporting to the Strong Country Ranger Team Leader (Eastern Team), this hands-on field role works across culturally and environmentally significant landscapes to deliver land management activities including cultural and ecological fire management, pest and invasive species control, wildlife conservation, bushland regeneration and revegetation.

Working as part of the Strong Country team, you will contribute to healthy Country by combining cultural knowledge, practical land management and environmental stewardship to support long-term cultural and ecological outcomes.

This role is based in the eastern part of Bunurong Country, working across a range of land types and tenures. The team’s work is primarily focused from the Bunyip River through to Wilsons Promontory, caring for Country across forests, coastal landscapes, waterways, reserves and culturally significant places. The Eastern Strong Country Ranger Team works in partnership with Traditional Owners, land managers and local communities to support the protection and restoration of cultural and environmental values.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver on-Country land management activities including cultural and ecological fire management, pest and weed control, wildlife conservation, bushland regeneration and revegetation.
• Assist with planning and implementing cultural burning and ecological fire management.
• Support pest and invasive species management programs.
• Assist with wildlife monitoring and habitat restoration.
• Safely operate and maintain vehicles, plant and equipment.
• Follow work plans and directions from Team Leaders.
• Maintain accurate field records and complete required documentation.
• Engage respectfully with Traditional Owners, community members and partner organisations.
• Comply with organisational policies, cultural protocols and Occupational Health and Safety requirements.

What You Bring

Qualifications and Experience

• Aboriginality is mandatory (Bunurong Nation is desirable).
• Current Victorian Driver’s Licence.
• AgVet Chemical User Permit (or willingness to obtain).
• Chainsaw Licence (desirable).
• 4x4 driving experience (desirable).
• Clear Working with Children Check and National Police Check (or willingness to obtain).
• Basic computer skills (Outlook, Microsoft Office).
• Native plant identification skills, or willingness to learn.
• Experience using GPS, maps and navigation tools, or willingness to learn.
• Experience or interest in land management, fire management, pest control or wildlife conservation.
• Ability to undertake physically demanding outdoor work
