Paediatric Speech Pathologist

Bubup Wilam Aboriginal Child and Family Centre

Bubup Wilam Aboriginal Child and Family Centre is seeking an experienced Speech Pathologist (0.4-0.6 EFT) to join its Early Childhood Intervention Team. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a vibrant Aboriginal community controlled organisation and be part of a dynamic team which includes early educators and health professionals, as well as the families and their children.

Who are we?

Bubup Wilam Aboriginal Child and Family Centre is a thriving Aboriginal community controlled organisation based in Thomastown. Bubup Wilam delivers a holistic and integrated family focused model of care, which addresses the complex needs of Aboriginal children and families. Our programs include:

  • Aboriginal early years enhanced education program.
  • BWEL Health and Wellbeing program, including an NDIA registered Early Childhood Intervention Service (ECIS).
  • Prevention and early intervention support for children and families.
  • Family and community strengthening, support, referral and advocacy.
  • Workforce Development, Employment and Training.
  • General education and community engagement on Aboriginal issues

Our Core Values:

Our approach is based on the understanding that young Aboriginal children and their families need holistic, culturally safe, Aboriginal-led programs to support them to overcome entrenched social disadvantage, to have the opportunity to develop their potential and to thrive within their communities and the wider world.

Bubup Wilam meaning ‘Children’s Place’ in Woi Wurrung language seeks to underpin and strengthen that vision through the service’s philosophy of instilling and strengthening children’s strong sense of Aboriginal identity and personal self-esteem as their foundation for lifelong learning, health and wellbeing. This equates to children, and with the support of their parents and extended family, taking a lead responsibility in owning and maintaining their own identity and developing their play, space, interaction, learning and engagement with others in a confident and supported way. We aim to ensure our children at a very early age begin the journey in reaching their full human potential.

About the role:

We’re looking for individuals with:

  • Prior experience as a Paediatric Speech Pathologist
  • Working knowledge and experience within the Early Intervention sector (Children 0-10 years), the NDIS, and experience in providing family centred community based care would be an advantage.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the education team to support the learning and participation of all children in the education space
  • Experience in a changing dynamic environment and ability to be flexible and adaptable in a time of change

This is an exciting opportunity for applicants who wish to walk in solidarity with Aboriginal colleagues, families and children in their fight for self determination. We are looking for applicants who have a keen sense of social justice and a passion for watching children learn and grow from early year’s through to school and becoming strong, proud Aboriginal Community members.
