Head of Fundraising - Newcastle

Breast Cancer Trials

Join Breast Cancer Trials (BCT) - a world leading, purpose-driven research charity making a real difference in the lives of people affected by breast cancer. This is an opportunity to step into a key executive leadership role, shaping and leading a fundraising function that enables world-class clinical trials and improves outcomes for patients.

You’ll have the support of a passionate and capable Fundraising team and the broader BCT leadership team in taking up the opportunity to lead meaningful growth in an organisation that combines scientific excellence with human compassion.

While our office is based in Newcastle, for the right candidate we are willing to explore remote work, with the expectation of regular travel to support connection, leadership functions and key priorities.

About the Role

As Head of Fundraising, you will play a pivotal role in delivering sustained, diversified income growth, providing strategic leadership across the fundraising portfolio and leading through a team of senior managers to strengthen organisational capability, alignment and long-term growth.

BCT is building on its strong foundations, with a renewed focus on how we work together and deliver impact. This role will be key in guiding the team through this next chapter - providing clear leadership, supporting alignment across functions and strengthening capability, while maintaining momentum and performance. It’s an opportunity to shape the future of the fundraising function, building on those strong foundations to create clarity, consistency and confidence across the team. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will:

  • Lead, inspire and develop a multi-disciplinary fundraising team across individual giving, partnerships and data insights
  • Drive sustained revenue growth across a diversified portfolio, including individual giving, community fundraising, major gifts and trusts and foundations
  • Establish and scale philanthropy capability, including major donor and foundation strategies, pipelines and stewardship approaches
  • Oversee the performance, strategy and financial sustainability of all fundraising programs
  • Develop and implement integrated plans, budgets and forecasts aligned to organisational priorities
  • Build and strengthen relationships with corporate partners, major donors and key stakeholders
  • Partner closely with Communications to deliver aligned campaigns, consistent messaging and integrated audience-led strategies
  • Lift the impact of data capability to support evidence-based decision making and improved supporter outcomes
  • Provide strategic advice and insights to the CEO and board to support decision making
  • Lead, coach and develop a high-performing leadership team, fostering accountability, innovation and continuous improvement

This role is well suited to a senior leader who enjoys balancing strategy and delivery, leading through change, and building capability for long-term impact.

About You

You bring significant senior leadership experience, ideally within fundraising, not-for-profit, marketing or communications environments. You are a strategic and commercially minded leader who can drive performance while building strong, engaged teams.

You will also demonstrate:

  • Proven success leading complex, diversified fundraising portfolio with accountability for revenue growth
  • Experience establishing and scaling major gifts and/or trusts & foundations programs
  • Strong financial management, planning and performance reporting capability
  • Experience leading teams through change, growth or transformation
  • Demonstrated experience leading, coaching and developing high-performing leadership teams, driving accountability, fostering innovation, and embedding a culture of continuous improvement across functions
  • A data-informed and strategic mindset, with the ability to translate strategy into clear, actionable plans
  • Exceptional communication, leadership and influencing skills
  • A genuine passion for making a meaningful impact
