Position Objective:

Due to the generosity of a Brian M Davies grant, Big Group Hug is excited to extend its services to the Western Suburbs establishing a new Hub ensuring we reach more children across Victoria. Working collaboratively with Wyndham Council, this is an exciting position to roll out Big Group Hug’s services across the Western Suburbs of Melbourne.

An exciting opportunity exists now to join the Big Group Hug Team as Relationship Development Coordinator reporting to the Manager, Fundraising and Communications. This position is responsible for developing relationships with a variety of organisations and caseworkers to increase the reach and impact of Big Group Hug in the Wyndham community. The successful applicant will have proven success collaborating across an organisation to make a mission driven impact. You will be a self- starter, with the drive, vision, and networking ability to ensure more families are helped. You will also be comfortable with encouraging organisations to conduct fundraisers for Big Group Hug.

About Big Group Hug

Big Group Hug is a volunteer-driven, not-for-profit organisation founded in 2014. Head Office is based in the northern suburbs of Melbourne, in Thomastown. We have satellite locations in Airport West and Tarneit. Big Group Hug supports vulnerable and disadvantaged families in need, by providing new and pre-loved goods to help these families care for their children, aged from newborn to 16-year-old.

Our core belief is that all children deserve the best start in life, so for us, the child is the focus of everything we do. Our team is made up of over 350 individuals/volunteers who are determined and committed to assisting every family who asks for help.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Build awareness of BGH to agencies, social workers and aligned organisations
  2. Deliver the schools program and present to schools to encourage fundraising and item sourcing for donations
  3. Promote to Childcare centres in City of Wyndham and surrounds to do fundraisers and goods drives
  4. Present at clubs and local businesses – e.g. Rotary, Lions, CWA, local coffees shop etc to fundraise and goods drives
  5. Active engagement online in Facebook groups etc to encourage donations and awareness
  6. Engage and help recruit volunteers, helping with volunteer inductions and training.
  7. Create networking opportunities for local groups and social opportunities like sewing clubs that are place based and created by the community for the community
  8. Attend relevant community meetings, attend networking events
  9. Maintain and develop relationship with City of Wyndham
  10. Represent Big Group Hug at online and in-person events in a presenting and networking capacity to grow awareness of our organisation. This may include community and social groups.
  11. Support general Big Group Hug events and initiatives and campaigns as required
  12. Assisting with sourcing requested items not currently available from BGH’s storage facility
  13. Updating database and keeping records of contacts and meetings
  14. Other Hub duties as required
  15. Maintaining confidentiality regarding client information

Skills, Education and Experience Required:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification and/or relevant experience.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in either social services, marketing/sales, or a service industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and meet targets and timelines.
  • Able to set priorities and goals, plan and problem solve.
  • Personable, with good communication skills including developed presentation skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships and work with peers, staff, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
  • Experience in managing volunteers (desirable).
  • First aid certificate (desirable).
  • Exceptional Administration Skills including MS Office and a familiarity with Salesforce or similar databases.

This is a part time ongoing role for 15 hours a week. Our Hub is located at 2-28 Goddard St, Tarneit 3029.

Work can be from home as needed and you will be required to go into the Hub on a regular basis, as well as attend training initially in our Thomastown warehouse.
