Join Box Hill Institute as a Student Wellbeing Officer, where you'll play a vital role in supporting students to overcome personal, academic and life challenges. Working as part of a collaborative Student Life team, you'll help create an inclusive, supportive learning environment that promotes engagement, retention and success across a diverse student cohort.

This is a full-time, on-going opportunity. Salary is $76,950 per annum, plus 12% superannuation.

About the role

As a Student Wellbeing Officer, you will deliver high-quality welfare and intervention services that underpin a positive student experience. You will support students at risk of disengagement by addressing challenges such as mental health, financial hardship, relationship issues and study difficulties, while working closely with stakeholders across the Institute to achieve strong student outcomes.

What you'll do

  • Provide responsive, student-focused wellbeing services including drop-in support, early intervention and crisis response
  • Deliver advice and strategies to teaching staff to support student retention and engagement
  • Work collaboratively with the Student Life team to design, facilitate and evaluate workshops, orientation programs and wellbeing initiatives
  • Support students experiencing complex issues (mental health, financial, social or personal) and refer to appropriate internal or external services
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records and contribute to reporting requirements
  • Liaise with community services and internal stakeholders to ensure holistic support for students
  • Promote wellbeing services and foster engagement with Student Life programs across campuses

About You

You are a compassionate, proactive professional with a strong commitment to supporting diverse student populations and delivering high-quality wellbeing services.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Social Work, Counselling, Community Services, Youth Work or a related field; or
  • A Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma in a related discipline, together with substantial relevant experience

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in counselling, welfare, youth work or similar student support roles
  • Ability to provide timely intervention and support for complex mental health and wellbeing needs
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Demonstrated problem-solving capability and the ability to manage sensitive situations professionally and empathetically
  • High level administrative and organisational skills, including maintaining confidential records
  • Cultural awareness and the ability to work inclusively with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Alignment with a child-safe, inclusive and values-based workplace
  • Have, or be willing to obtain, Victorian Working with Children Check and National Police Check clearance.
