About the role:

The role of the Reconnect Case Manager is to be the primary support for registered students in Box Hill Institute’s (BHI) Skills First Reconnect program.

  • Student Support: Provide case management to Reconnect students, including through outreach and on campus engagement, supporting individuals address vocational and non-vocational barriers as part of re-engagement into education, training and employment pathways.
  • Student Planning: Meet with Reconnect students that are part of caseload at least once per month to review and update individual Work and Learning Plans. This includes reviewing goals and aspirations that are student led. Provide counselling, information, advice and supported referral for individuals and families as required.
  • Learner Outcomes: Support Reconnect students to remain engaged in and complete their education and training programs and employment placements through assertive outreach and advocacy. Work with Reconnect students around transition planning from service support to sustain success.

Your skills and experience

A relevant degree level qualification in Youth Work, Welfare, Counselling, or equivalent.

Customer/Client Service: Demonstrated and considerable experience in working to provide counselling, welfare, Youth Work or similar professional supports to young people or educational support to young people or other vulnerable student groups, including the ability to provide individual support and advocacy on their behalf. Capacity to deal confidently, courteously and confidentially with people at all levels and from diverse backgrounds, and a commitment to providing a high level of customer care in a student support role.

Administration and Computer Skills: High standard of verbal and written communication and ability to organise information, maintain and manage student records and reporting, and have proficient skills in the use of Microsoft Office programs.

Program Delivery: Ability to proactively promote and implement a range of student or client support strategies in a complex organisational context and a sound understanding and ability to meet legal, ethical, professional and policy requirements involved in the delivery of education and support programs to young students.

Problem Solving: Demonstrated ability to resolve issues for vulnerable people, and an ability to anticipate potential problems and propose workable solutions.

You will need to provide or be willing to obtain a current National Police Records Check, a Working with Children Check, evidence of your entitlement to work in Australia, and certified copies of your qualifications.
