Job summary:
An opportunity to grow your project management skills in the Pacific, we are hiring an International Project Manager to lead on the ground implementation and expansion of the Tamanu Electronic Medical Record (EMR) across public hospitals in Kiribati. In Kiribati, Tamanu is being rolled out at the national hospital and several other health facilities and public health services. Alongside Tamanu, you will also lead the implementation of our data aggregation platform, Tupaia.

About the role:
This is a 12 month contract with potential for extension. The successful applicant will be required to spend most of their time in Kiribati with regular trips back to an Australian or NZ home base for R&R purposes. You may also be asked to travel to other Pacific Island Countries to support other projects as required. The expectation would be that the Project Manager is willing and available to spend 90% of their time travelling.
This role will be supported by a BES team to lead on the ground implementation and expansion of the Tamanu Electronic Medical Record (EMR), including the implementation of the Tupaia data platform for health system reporting.
Key responsibilities:
- Requirements-gathering with stakeholders at the partner country Ministry of Health to ensure the Tamanu EMR and Tupaia reporting platforms are configured to meet local needs, workflows, and health system reporting requirements
- Configuration of both platforms, including creation and importation of reference data, user permissions, and translation of requirements into actionable pieces of work for the software development team
- Delivery of Tamanu EMR and Tupaia training to end-users (health system workforce) targeted to individual needs and digital health literacy
- Provide ‘at-the-elbow’ support to Tamanu EMR and Tupaia users during any go-lives, and new feature roll out
- Be available to provide constant post-implementation phase support to all users as the system is refined to meet needs
- Project documentation including, for example, development of work plans, context-specific training materials, a change management strategy etc.
- Work with the BES team to develop country level reports in line with contracted/donor funding reporting cycle requirements as required
- Provide software demonstrations and trainings as required on BES and related software, including Tamanu and Tupaia
- Ensure compliance with policies and fiduciary responsibilities in the carrying out of contracts
- Attend meetings and conferences on behalf of BES, including delivering presentations where required
- Promote BES and BES products and generate revenue leads by collaboration with partner countries and organisations
- Other duties as reasonably requested by your manager, including support on other projects if required
This position reports to the Tamanu Kiribati Project Manager and will be a part of the Tamanu Project Management Team.

You’ll have:
- Tertiary qualifications in one of: Clinical Health (e.g. Nursing, Medicine, other health field), Public Health, Global Health, Digital Health, or related field
- At least 1-2 years’ experience working in a hospital setting
Ideally, you’ll have experience in:
- Implementing digital transformation initiatives
- Working with digital health tools
- Living or working in low-resource or culturally diverse settings
Personal attributes:
- Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to work with individuals from a variety of professions
- Resilience working in tough environments, with a high level of autonomy and the ability to solve problems, coupled with the ability to recognise when assistance is required and the willingness to ask for that assistance
- Ability to remain calm under pressure
- High comfort with and ability to learn new technology
