The Strategy, Policy and Reform Group leads the strategic, policy and reform directions of Beyond Blue.
The Policy and Communications Team is responsible for driving Beyond Blue’s efforts to reform the mental health and suicide prevention systems in Australia, by shifting the narrative about anxiety, depression and suicidality and influencing public policy.
The Media Team manages Beyond Blue’s earned media profile, ensures any issues which impact our reputation are managed effectively, oversees social media activity relevant to public debate, provides strategic input and advice on key message development, and manages speechwriting for the Beyond Blue Chair and CEO.
The Senior Media Adviser works across the entire organisation to generate media coverage of Beyond Blue activities across all platforms. This includes:
The incumbent liaises with external stakeholders working within media such as journalists, producers, presenters, bloggers etc. and people with lived experience including depression/anxiety or who have attempted suicide – and their families if appropriate.
Tertiary qualified, preferably in journalism, communications, or media the appointee will have several years newsroom, public relations or online community engagement experience. You will develop and implement media strategies to promote Beyond Blue and its programs, activities, campaigns, services and spokespeople. Your understanding of news cycles, needs and preferences of media outlets across all platforms at national, state and regional levels will underpin your ability to ensure activities reflect the diversity of the Australian community, including groups at increased risk of anxiety, depression and suicide.
