This role with Belco Arts offers a unique opportunity to define, shape and position our IGNITE program into the arts ecology of the Canberra region.

About Belco Arts

Belconnen Arts Centre, situated on the shore of Lake Ginninderra in the north of Canberra, is a multi-arts facility with a 400 seat theatre, rehearsal room, numerous gallery spaces, a dance studio, two workshops, four offices and a large foyer space. Belco Arts engages with artists, communities and partners through Community Arts and Cultural Development (CACD) practice, to empower and celebrate our identity, values, and stories.

About IGNITE

IGNITE is an engaged, contemporary and innovative arts collective for artists with lived experience of disability, mental health issues and the D/deaf and HOH (Hard of Hearing). IGNITE assists in the development of artists’ aspirations and their repertoire of skills in creative practice, aiming to remove barriers for disabled artists as makers and viewers. IGNITE supports and nurtures the aspirations of disabled artists and assists in broadening experience, networks and access to opportunities, facilitating disabled artists to engage in all areas of arts and culture, including employment, education and leadership roles.

What you will be doing

You will continue to deliver the current suite of IGNITE programs. We also aim to develop new programs to expand the range of programs on offer. These will all be devised in keeping with the strategic directions for Belco Arts.

The role is a part-time position for ten months. This position will require flexible delivery with occasional weekend and after-hours work in line with program activity.

What you will need to succeed

Our ideal candidate will be passionate about working in an arts organisation to remove barriers, improve access and build opportunities for disabled artists to engage in all areas of arts and culture, including employment, education, and leadership roles.

You will have high level communication, negotiation and relationship building skills and the capacity to work successfully with colleagues and creatives from diverse backgrounds, cultures, abilities, socio economic circumstances and ages.

  • A Working with Vulnerable People registration is essential.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of programs is essential.
  • Current Driver’s License is desirable.
  • Relevant Tertiary qualifications and First Aid certificate are desirable.
