AIEF was established in 2008 in response to community demand from Indigenous families who choose to enrol their children in boarding schools. Bringing together the government and private sector, AIEF provides scholarship funding for Indigenous students must complete Year 12 or tertiary studies with career support to help them successfully transition to employment.

AIEF has grown from one scholarship student in 2008, to now supporting over 1,000 young Indigenous Australians from over 400 communities from every state and territory across Australia.

About the role

Reporting to and working closely with the Deputy CEO, along with the Founder / Executive Director; The Programs Director has overall responsibility for the delivery and implementation of the organisation's Scholarship Program and Pathways Program and all of the activities and initiatives under each of those programs.

  • A full time, permanent role based in the office located in Surry Hills.

Working as a member of the organisation's Executive team, you will be a well-respected leader and ambassador for the organisation, contributing to the achievement of outcomes across the whole organisation.

Key Responsibilities include

  • Maintaining an overarching and comprehensive view of all facets of the programs, including conceptualising, planning, implementing and evaluating program improvements.
  • Coaching and working with program leaders and the broader teams to develop them professionally, building a culture of high morale, satisfaction and engagement of team members.
  • Ensuring relevant program and people KPIs and business outcomes are set and achieved.
  • Operational oversight of supervision, recruitment, onboarding, performance management and professional development.
  • Overseeing all program-related:
    • policies and procedures
    • strategies, submissions and proposals
    • planning, risk management and resource allocation
    • reporting and evaluations
  • Establishing and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with partner schools and tertiary colleges.
  • Establishing and maintaining other relevant relationships with stakeholders including government departments, corporates and non-profits.

About you

To have success in this role you will have a strategic mindset, with the capacity to balance strategic imperatives with “hands-on” operational work required of everyone in a small organisation. You will be highly organised, and self-motivated and able to manage timelines and deliverables. You will also have:

  • Extensive experience in program delivery and improvement preferably in an education, young people and/or employment environment, and an ability to drive program outcomes. Experience from programs across broader vulnerable groups will also be considered
  • Significant senior management experience leading high-performing teams with the proven ability to effectively manage, coach and lead team members.
  • Experienced in overseeing complex budgets, payments, acquittals and/or reporting processes, working with complex data sets.
  • highly skilled communicator with proven results in building effective and professional relationships with stakeholders, both internally and externally
  • The ability to conceptualise, plan, deliver and evaluate programs and initiatives for young people or consumers of programs
  • Experience in succeeding in fast paced, dynamic and innovative environments with an ability to create executive level content in compressed timeframes.
  • Demonstrated ability to research, analysis, and strategically assess information and data
  • The ability to carry out planned Interstate travel will be required.
  • All employees will be required to undergo a National Criminal Record Check, along with WWCC and be fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus.

Desirable

  • Experienced in providing career advice and/or achieving successful employment outcomes for Indigenous students or young Indigenous adults.
  • Experienced in the administration of scholarship/grants programs.
  • Have knowledge of tertiary study options and processes.
  • Hold a high level of Indigenous cultural competency and existing networks in Indigenous communities and organisations.
