About the Role

The National Marketing and Supporter Engagement Manager is responsible for the development and execution of the Marketing, Communications and Supporter Engagement strategies to support Opportunity’s revenue, brand, and supporter growth. You will join at a pivotal time for Opportunity as it launches a new vision, strategy and direction for the organisation.

This is an exciting opportunity to use your expertise and experience to engage and inform Australians about Opportunity’s work and raise much-needed funds to help families around the world leave poverty behind.

This role will manage a range of communications, PR and brand activities to raise the profile, fundraising revenue and impact of Opportunity. In this role, you will also oversee core marketing channels covering appeals, campaigns, regular giving, events and peer-to-peer fundraising across a range of online and offline channels (including direct marketing and digital marketing).

This role is suited to someone with creative flair, attention to detail and a focus on results and return on investment. The ability to constructively challenge conventional wisdom, recommend new and innovative marketing and communications strategies, and grow a variety of revenue streams will all be considered highly.

The Marketing and Communications team plays a critical role within the organisation and works closely with other senior executives. Excellent people-skills, a desire for collaboration and communication skills (both written and verbal) are a must.
A passion for international development to serve the world’s most disadvantaged, and an alignment with Opportunity’s mission, value and purpose, is critical.

Responsibilities Include

  • Lead, inspire and manage a passionate, highly skilled, thriving team dedicated and driven to deliver on the strategy
  • Develop and implement an annual Marketing and Supporter Engagement strategy to drive revenue growth and support the organisation’s objectives
  • Manage and lead a passionate, highly skilled, thriving team dedicated and driven to deliver on the strategy
  • Be a part of the Leadership Team of a well-respected, credible and impactful NGO
  • Generate revenue through mass marketing appeals and campaigns, regular giving and community fundraising
  • Manage all publications, newsletters, brochures, flyers, letters, presentations, and other collateral
  • Develop Opportunity’s online presence including website, e-communications, and social media
  • Oversee the execution of Marketing and Supporter Engagement activities including integrated campaign activity (online and offline), digital marketing activity, events, video production, etc
  • Manage the PR strategy including writing media releases, ongoing media liaison and management of advertising activities and speaking opportunities
  • Forecast and manage the Marketing and Supporter Engagement budget and expenditure
  • Use business insights and analytics to assess, drive and measure activity
  • Report on marketing and communications activity to the CEO, Executives and Board
  • Manage internal stakeholders and external agencies, partners and suppliers.

  • Proven track record in Marketing and Supporter Engagement roles with demonstrated ability to create and deliver a highly profitable strategy
  • Experience in a not-for-profit organisation in a similar role responsible for delivering revenue and driving growth
  • Strong managerial capacity, both in strategy and results, and demonstrated ability to lead, grow and nurture a team
  • Experience in managing integrated marketing campaigns online and offline – with skills and understanding in the paid digital space
  • Very strong writing and editing skills with great attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a dynamic, fast-paced and flexible team environment, juggling multiple projects to get the job done
  • Analytical, big picture thinker
  • Relevant tertiary qualification ideally (Business, Marketing, Communications, Journalism or similar)
  • Experience in managing supporter and stakeholder relationships
  • Exceptional oral and written communications
  • Passionate about alleviating global poverty
