BDAC is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO) delivering services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of the Dja Dja Wurrung catchment in Victoria.

• Part time (4 days per week) 12 Months- possibility of extension

The Practice Nurse is responsible for providing follow up health care, education, advocating and support to the Aboriginal community of the Dja Dja Wurrung community and for promoting healthy lifestyles and healthy choices from a holistic position.

Key Selection Criteria

• Registered Nurse Division 1 with current AHPRA certificate
• Demonstrate a knowledge of and compliance with all relevant legislation and common law obligations affecting nursing
• Discharge of duty of care during practice including meeting practice standards, and accountability
• Experience in similar role as a practice nurse or in community-based nursing
• Knowledge and understanding of the health issues that face Aboriginal people and their communities. Respect, understand & acknowledge the traditions of Aboriginal people
• An understanding of a Community Controlled Health Organisation
• Knowledge of current immunisation schedule, diabetes management, asthma management, enhancing primary care items, infection control, CPR and emergency resuscitation techniques, equipment & drugs.
• Demonstrated patient-focused approach in service provision with genuine empathy and interest in their needs
• Maintain absolute confidentiality regarding patient and practice information
• Ability to effectively and efficiently plan and organise own workload. Work cooperatively within a team as well as be able to work independently
• Demonstrated ability to manage stressful situations and demanding workloads
• Effective interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication
• Advanced computer skills, knowledge of Best Practice software.
