An exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Family Practitioner to work on a new model.

This position provides therapeutic interventions and parenting support for parents and, where appropriate, therapeutic art and play-based interventions to young children.

It aims to enhance the psycho social outcomes for young children experiencing social and emotional difficulties, supports strong relationships between children and adult caregivers and enables children to be ready to participate in school education.

About the Program:

Family Foundations is an early intervention therapeutic program that promotes strong, secure, and healthy relationships between children aged 0-5 years and their parents/carers. The program will provide families with flexible options to access support that meets their individual needs and also work with other professionals and services to enhance participant outcomes; this can include access to group work programs.

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Assist parents/caregivers with parenting support and therapeutic interventions to increase the socio-emotional well being of children and families
  • Provide supported referral and advocacy for participants as appropriate
  • Respond to referrals and requests for information as appropriate and in a timely manner as part of the Intake/Active Hold process
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders
  • Represent and network on behalf of BCS at external meetings and forums
  • Be actively involved in the coordination, development and implementation of group programs

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience in using a range of models and strategies to observe, assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions that support the social and emotional learning and development of young children
  • Experience in interventions using a family and person centred approach in providing individual and group therapy to children, young people and their families
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to engage and work collaboratively with vulnerable parents and families
  • Sound understanding of child development from birth to five years
  • Experience in the planning, facilitation and delivery of group programs
  • Knowledge and understanding of mental health and developmental issues and their relationship to child development

BCS requirements:

  • Employees are required to hold a satisfactory Working with Vulnerable People registration and have this with them at all times whilst employed by BCS
  • Employees are also required to undertake a National Criminal History Clearance by BCS prior to commencing and every three years thereafter as a condition of employment. Employees are required to advise BCS of any convictions that may affect their eligibility to work or performing the inherent requirements of their position
  • BCS may require the incumbent to undertake employment screening such as a medical assessment, functional assessment or psychological profile prior to an offer of employment and/or as determined by BCS during employment
