About the Role

The Social Inclusion Officer is responsible for supporting older people, people with a disability and unpaid carers to optimise their wellbeing through the development and delivery of information, programs and events that supports their engagement, participation and connection with the community. Utilising a community development approach, the role will identify needs and implement a range of initiatives that respond to these needs.

You will be responsible for:

• Developing, delivering and evaluating innovative social connection activities.
• Building social connectedness of older people, people with a disability and unpaid carers.
• Identifying and responding to community needs.
• Referring people to relevant Council and community services and activities as required.

Key Selection Criteria

To be successful in this role, you will bring the following skills and competencies:

• Tertiary qualification in community development, social work, health sciences or a related field or 3+ years’ experience working in a similar role.
• Demonstrated skills and experience in community development work, preferably within a local government context.
• Understanding of Council's role in providing services for people experiencing isolation and/or vulnerability.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with staff, community members and service agencies.
• Ability to facilitate and lead activities and programs.
• Intermediate level Microsoft Office skills.
• Current Victorian Driver's Licence.

Mandatory pre-employment requirements

• Be willing to undergo and complete a satisfactory criminal history check.
• Provide or obtain an employment-based Working with Children check.
