About Us

Baptcare Affordable Housing Ltd (BAH) is a Not-For-Profit Housing Provider, registered by the Registrar of Housing Agencies under the Housing Act 1983.  BAH was established and commenced its business activity in 2013 in response to the ongoing commitment by Baptcare Ltd to become more involved in meeting the needs of the most disadvantaged in our community. 

BAH manages over 100 properties in metropolitan and regional Victoria, and Devonport, Tasmania.  It is currently delivering further development projects in partnership with the Victorian Government to provide affordable and social housing for Victorians in need.

Baptcare Affordable Housing’s Mission: In partnership with Baptcare and based on Baptcare’s faith-centred principles, to create a financially independent and mission-focused company offering real opportunities to the aged, people with disability and families for affordable better living.

About the role

As part of Baptcare Affordable Housing’s annual succession planning process, it is seeking interest from experienced directors to join its Board. Prospective candidates will have demonstrated experience in relevant disciplines as outlined below.  Faith alignment and expression of Christian service through an active spiritual life and involvement in a Christian community/church is desirable. 

In addition, the Board would welcome nominations from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants.

  • The role requires attending approximately six board meetings per year, during the evening. In addition, it may be necessary to take part in out-of-cycle conference calls and/or occasional weekend workshops.
  • This is a paid position.

The head office is in Camberwell, Victoria. The majority of meetings will be convened at this location.

About You

An assessment of the current and likely future skills, experience and diversity needs of the Board determined that the organisation would benefit from the appointment of directors with substantial skills and experience in the following areas, along with other relevant attributes:

  • Housing industry sector experience – private and/or government
  • Skills and experience in project management, construction, engineering, quantity surveying and procurement
  • Strategic expertise
  • Government or political experience
  • Successful completion of the Australian Institute of Company Directors or Governance Institute of Australia courses (highly desirable)
  • Faith alignment and expression of Christian service through an active spiritual life and involvement in a Christian community/church (desirable)

Schedule

A summary of the major steps is provided below, along with anticipated timeframes.

July 2023: Call for Nominations. Nominees will be required to complete a short form and provide a cover letter and brief CV.

28 July 2023: Nominations close.

August 2023: Shortlisting process.

August/September 2023: Candidate interviews.

October 2023: Consideration by Board.

November 2023: First Board meeting for new directors.
