Equity & Inclusion Advisor

Banyule City Council

Our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion team is growing, and we are creating a new Equity & Inclusion Advisor role to help turn commitment into action.

This is a visible, people-focused role where you will help embed inclusion into everyday practice through programs, engagement, learning and practical tools that support a respectful and inclusive workplace.

Why this role matters

Banyule is entering a new phase of DEI work, with a stronger focus on employee voice, lived experience, shared accountability and practical action. You will help bring this work to life by turning our strategies and commitments into initiatives that support belonging, equity and respectful workplace culture.

What you’ll do

  • Deliver equity, inclusion and gender equality initiatives across Council
  • Coordinate engagement activities, campaigns, events and learning programs
  • Support teams to apply an inclusive lens to their work, including through Gender Impact Assessments
  • Contribute to sexual harassment prevention and respectful workplace initiatives
  • Build relationships across Council
  • Use feedback, insights and lived experience to improve how we design and deliver inclusion work

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for someone who is practical, thoughtful and people centred. You may bring experience in diversity and inclusion, organisational development, human resources, learning and capability, community engagement, gender equality, social policy or a related field.

Your experience and skills might include:

  • Delivering programs, engagement activities, training, community or workplace initiatives
  • Communication, facilitation and relationship-building
  • An understanding of equity, inclusion and gender equality principles
  • The ability to organise work, manage priorities and follow through
  • Curiosity, care and a commitment to continuous improvement
  • The ability to listen to employee voice and apply feedback in thoughtful, practical ways

We encourage you to apply

If this role excites you but you do not meet every requirement, we still encourage you to apply.

We value transferable skills, lived experience, community insight and a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion. We strongly encourage applications from people of diverse backgrounds, identities and experiences.

If you require flexibility or adjustments to support you through the recruitment process or in the role, we welcome a conversation about how we can make this work.

Benefits of working with us

  • Ongoing employment at 0.6 FTE (22.8 hours per week)
