The Animal Welfare League NSW has been looking after animals in our State for over 60 years. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Inspector to join the organisation. You will promote and enforce compliance with laws that regulate animal care and protection. You will conduct investigations into animal welfare incidents and provide education in animal care to the community. A suitable motor vehicle is provided, plus laptop and mobile.

In your role, you will:

  • Receive, investigate and record all reported cases of animal cruelty
  • Seize animals under powers contained in the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (POCTA)
  • Collect and collate evidence, prepare briefs, and attend court for prosecution of cases of cruelty under POCTA
  • Build positive and productive relationships with the community and other key stakeholders
  • Provide animal owners with education and advice in relation to responsible pet ownership and basic animal care for animals under their control
  • Provide detailed reports to the Chief Inspector and other senior managers regarding activities

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • 5+ years in an animal welfare or a similar role enforcing compliance with legislation
  • A Cert IV in Government Investigations
  • Excellent communication, mediation, and negotiation skills
  • Strong judgement skills and pragmatism in decision making
  • Strong networking skills
  • Team player with the ability to work autonomously
  • A demonstrated commitment to exceptional customer service
  • Be a self-motivator
  • Good animal handling, health care and welfare experience
  • Due to the nature of the role, a valid open NSW Drivers' License
  • A NSW Firearms License or be eligible to obtain a NSW Firearms License
