Who are we?

Albury Wodonga Health (AWH) is a unique cross-border public health service and the largest regional health service between Sydney and Melbourne. We support an outer catchment population of 250,000 throughout North-East VIC and Southern NSW, with a dedicated team of over 2,500 staff. We are a dynamic organisation undergoing significant growth, with plans for new Emergency and Mental Health facilities underway.

We are surrounded by a rural landscape which brings with it a range of tourist activities including the Rutherglen wine region, Milawa Fine Food trails and historic Beechworth. There is easy day access to the Falls Creek ski fields, Mount Hotham and Dinner Plain Resorts, not to mention the mountain biking trails of Mt Beauty, Yackandandah, Beechworth and Bright. For hiking enthusiasts we also sit close to Victoria’s High Country, the Kosciuszko Alpine Region and Buffalo National Park.

This stunning region offers a family-friendly lifestyle along with excellent nightlife and cultural activities. Affordable housing and reasonable cost of living, great schools and Universities all make this location one of the best regional cities in Australia.

What’s in it for you?

As a regional Emergency Department there are no concerns about deskilling in a specialty area. There is an extensive case mix with ample opportunities for maintaining procedural skills, such as, intubation, chest tubes, procedural sedations and joint relocations.

We are supported by a wide range of subspecialties. Within medicine these include general medicine, respiratory, infectious diseases, cardiology, gastroenterology, nephrology, haematology and oncology. The surgical department includes general surgery, orthopaedics, ENT, maxillofacial and paediatric surgery. Other specialties include paediatrics, psychiatry, ophthalmology and obstetrics/gynaecology.

Trainees are supported with close working relationships with intensive care and anaesthetics for critical presentations. We have a relaxed and information-packed 4-hour weekly teaching program.
