Marshall Islands has one of the highest prevalence of diabetes worldwide with about one third of the adult population suffering from the disease. In the National Strategic Plan 2015-2017, the RMI Government addressed the need for both increased access to nutritious foods and implementation of nutrition programs in Marshallese Schools. As an implementing partner, the Canvasback Wellness Centre, works in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education to deliver outcomes focused on addressing this disease. There is a need to develop capacity of nurses at the clinic and health workers on the island to enable them to provide greater diabetes care and prevention. 

  • You will develop and implement a training program for community health workers on improved diabetes health services at a community level. Additionally, you will develop a health curriculum for elementary schools focusing on diabetes prevention.
  • Share your experience in nursing and diabetes education with your local colleagues.
  • Gain a new perspective and skillset living and working in Majuro, capital of RMI.
