The Australian Volunteers Program is an Australian government funded initiative that has placed skilled volunteers overseas for over 60 years. Our volunteer assignments are driven by local objectives and needs of our partner organisations, located in 26 countries across Indo-Pacific.

As an Australian volunteer, we will support you by providing return airfares, living and accommodation allowances, health and security support, pre-departure and in-country training, and support for partners and children as well as people living with a disability.

About the organisation

The PNGAus Partnership Secondary Schools initiative (PAPSSi) is a new secondary education initiative of the Government of Australia delivered in partnership with the Government of Papua New Guinea that continues the enduring friendship between the two countries. We share a border, close personal and professional ties, a love of sport and community, an entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to see our cultures preserved and celebrated. 

The goal of PAPSSi is to strengthen relationships between Papua New Guinean and Australian secondary schools in a manner that builds their capabilities and deepens people to people links.

To achieve this, PAPSSi has partnered 12 high performing PNG secondary schools with 12 Australian secondary schools to support capacity building and share best practice in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), English language, youth empowerment and inclusive education.

About the role

This volunteer position supports the PNG National Department of Education (NDoE) and Provincial Education Boards (PEBs) in six Provinces (East Sepik Provincial, East New Britain, Eastern Highlands, Central Province & National Capital District) to increase capacity of the NDoE and the respective PEBs to develop effective STEM policy in line with PNG Curriculum and to design professional learning for policy implementation in cross-disciplinary to STEM education.

We are seeking 7 volunteers to be placed with the NDoE in Port Moresby, and at Provincial Education Boards in East New Britain Province, Eastern Highlands Province, East Sepik Province, Central and National Capital District respectively. 

  • In this role you will work to develop effective STEM education policies in line with the PNG curriculum
  • You will require relevant qualifications in education/teaching, as well as experience or qualifications in teacher training and/or professional learning
  • You will require experience in STEM policy and cross-disciplinary approaches
  • These roles take place across many varied locations - more in-depth information regarding each city is available in the position description. Location preferences and suitability will be discussed during interview.
