We’re looking for an English as a Second Language Trainer who can live and volunteer for 12 months in Sri Lanka.
The Organisation of People for Engagement and Enterprise (OPEnE), based in Mannar, is a local, not-for-profit, development organisation. It was created by a group of like-minded and motivated individuals with the support of ZOA, a Netherlands based INGO. In the context of a long-term civil war which ended about a decade ago, OPEnE’s aim is to improve the livelihoods of war affected communities and nurture the socio-economic development initiated by other actors in our area. At present, the organisation is achieving these aims primarily through children’s education, women’s empowerment, building sustainable livelihoods and protecting the environment
The volunteer would support OPEnE and northern area remote partners in their efforts to improve English language teaching in schools. Currently the lack of English language skills is holding students back from achieving their life potential. The volunteer will work with poorly resourced, remote state-run schools in the Mannar district.
The Australian Volunteers Program is an Australian government-funded initiative. We support partner organisations across the Pacific, Asia, and Africa to achieve locally led change.
Volunteers are supported throughout their volunteer journey, and we actively support and encourage people of all backgrounds and abilities to volunteer and aim to make the program as accessible and inclusive as possible. Find out more.
Additional requirements for this assignment include a First Aid Certificate.
