ABOUT THE ASSIGNMENT

The Organisation of People for Engagement and Enterprise (OPEnE) is a local, not-for-profit, development organisation, which has been working in the Mannar district of Northern Sri Lanka since 2016. The organisation was created by a group of like-minded and motivated individuals with the support of ZOA, a Netherlands based INGO - a strategic partner.

The work currently contributes towards the following Millennium Development Goals:

  1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
  2.  Achieve universal primary education
  3.  Promote gender equality and empower women;

The organisation is realigning to support target communities in the 'new normal' during and after the COVID19 pandemic. Although COVID19 infection rates and causalities are relatively low in in Sri Lanka (but increasing during November 2020), the economic fall-out and access to education for rural children and children from poor household are severely impacted. New sources of support are needed to respond to emerging realities and work towards mitigating the loss of children's education. Early evidence shows women and children are worst affected and are victims of various forms of violence. The interventions are needed to address multiple concerns including mental wellbeing and food security of women and children. OPEnE needs to source new donor partners who would empathetically support the organisation to address COVID19 related issues to support communities.

A dynamic person is needed, with skills to proactively explore opportunities to secure funding and mentor OPEnE colleagues to maintain these relationship through donor compliance and finding new opportunities. The skills required for this task are hard to come by in country and even if found in Sri Lanka, availability of their time would limited.
