About the Role

This is a unique opportunity to join a newly formed, innovative project team to develop and deliver autism-specific workshops and specialised training services to mental health professionals.

This opportunity will suit a qualified and experienced Occupational Therapist who has significant experience working with people with autism, facilitating professional development and an understanding of evidence-based practices and positive behaviour support.

This position is offered on part-time basis. Initially you will be able to work from home but in due course will be based at our Sunnybank Hills or Acacia Ridge sites.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver autism-specific training for mainstream community mental health professionals in a range of delivery modes including face-to-face workshops and webinars
  • Interview and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to identify learning outcomes and develop training responsive to each target group/area
  • Contribute to design and implementation of measures to evaluate training outcomes and participant satisfaction
  • Conduct ongoing review and update of training packages dependent on participant and stakeholder feedback, training evaluations and relevant research
  • Map community mental health services in the Queensland Primary Health Networks (PHNs) to enable dissemination of information and training to health professionals in these services
  • Collaboratively develop stakeholder communication and marketing strategies to attract interview and training participants
  • Prepare reports and collect data as required
  • Organise various practical aspects of events with administrative support
  • Experience working with children and or adults with other disabilities is highly desired

Essential Criteria

  • Minimum tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification in Occupational Therapy
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in disability including at least 3 years’ experience working with people on the autism spectrum
  • Demonstrated understanding of evidence-based practices relevant to working with people on the autism spectrum
  • Demonstrated experience and success facilitating group training
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly effective interpersonal communication skills with proven ability to work collaboratively, and to build effective relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of Microsoft Office suite of programs

Special Conditions

  • Current registration or eligibility for registration with the relevant professional Board or professional membership
  • Some outside regular hours work
  • Current open driver’s license
  • May be required to use own vehicle for work purposes when an AQ pool vehicle is not available
  • It is the responsibility of the employee to hold a current, recognized Provide First Aid qualification
  • It is the responsibility of the employee to hold and maintain at their own expense, a current Criminal History Screening Card/s or relevant Exemption Card
  • Certificate of Completion in NDIS Worker Orientation Module “Quality Safety and You”
