Job Description

As a key member of the ATSICHS Brisbane team, the JWH Afterhours Support Worker is expected to personally contribute to the shaping and achievement of ATSICHS vision and goals within their own scope. The JWH Afterhours Support Worker will provide three (3) Key Functions 

Role Functions 

Respond to emerging crisis and safety needs of Joyce Wilding Hostel in accordance with ATSICHS policies and procedures. Maintain accurate administration notes and uphold records to ensure a smooth transition to staff. 

Organisational Contributions 

Act as a resource of support to the residents in meeting their afterhours needs and ensure the premises are kept to a high level of safety and adhere to work place health and safety standards, to ensure safe conditions. 

Contribute to the Development of a Flourishing Team 

Support fellow staff in a team environment to build collegiality and a sense of belongingness within the team and ATSICHS family. Staff will actively participate in team activities and contribute to a flourishing workplace culture that promotes the ethos and values of ATSICHS Brisbane as a long standing Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation. 

Desired Skills and Experience

Essential:  

  • Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies and their cultures, and a general understanding of the issues that are affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in contemporary Australian society.  
  • Experience in managing complex situations is sought after.  
  • Demonstrated experience in working sensitively with women and children.  
  • Demonstrated ability in responding to family crisis.   
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in the application of a variety of hostel management procedures and processes.  
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict and deescalate volatile situations.  
  • Ability to support and manage a continuous improvement model for achieving improved ways of working at JWH.  
  • Decisive listening, influencing and persuasive skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability in accurate note talking and filing. 
  • Working with Children’s Card (Blue Card) or be eligible to apply  
  • Experience with Intake  

Desirable, but not mandatory: 

  • Degree / Diploma or equivalent in social science or Welfare field preferred or extensive experience with sound Knowledge and skills in working with children and family issues  
  • Knowledge of Infoxchange or similar data base
