The Department of Children and Families works in partnership with families, communities and key stakeholders to ensure children experience safe, healthy and supported childhoods. We are committed to strengthening communities and delivering high-quality child protection and out-of-home care services across the Northern Territory.
As the Team Leader Carer Services, you will lead and supervise a team delivering statutory and non-statutory welfare services, while coordinating the assessment, recruitment and support of foster and kinship carers across the region. This is a key leadership role responsible for driving high-quality practice, supporting staff development, and ensuring services are delivered in accordance with legislation, policy and best practice standards.
Key responsibilities include:

Lead, supervise and develop a team of professional staff delivering carer services

Oversee the assessment, recruitment, registration and ongoing support of foster and kinship carers

Ensure compliance with the Care and Protection of Children Act and departmental policies
-
Provide practice leadership, coaching and professional supervision to staff
-
Support the delivery of carer recruitment, education and support programs
-
Monitor data quality and ensure accurate case management system recording
-
Contribute to office management, service improvement and program development

Build strong partnerships with internal stakeholders, communities and external services

Participate in after-hours service delivery as required
To be successful, you will have:
-
Relevant tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology, community services or equivalent (meeting professional membership eligibility requirements)

Demonstrated leadership experience in child protection or welfare services

Strong supervision and team management capability
-
Advanced assessment, analytical and decision-making skills
-
Experience applying legislation and delivering best practice outcomes

Highly developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills
-
Cultural competence, including understanding of Aboriginal families and communities

Ability to manage competing priorities and lead practice in a complex environment
