Remuneration Equivalent to Executive Contract Officer 2 (EC02)

An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated, with an appointment of up to three years. This is a statutory appointment made by the Administrator of the Northern Territory, with terms and conditions set by the Administrator. An opportunity for reappointment may be offered.

Applicants will be required to complete a statutory declaration, consent to a National Criminal History Check and consent to relevant professional bodies providing records of investigations into their professional conduct.

The Role

The Northern Territory Government is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced person for appointment as the Anti-Discrimination Commissioner.

The Anti-Discrimination Commissioner is an independent statutory officer appointed under Part 2 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1992.

The Commissioner plays a critical role in ensuring the Northern Territory’s anti-discrimination framework operates effectively, fairly and in a way that delivers timely and practical outcomes for Territorians.

The Commissioner leads a team responsible for a range of statutory functions, including assessing complaints, conducting conciliations, and referring matters for hearing by the Northern Territory Civil and Administrative Tribunal. The role also includes reviewing legislation for consistency with the Act and working with organisations, government and the community to support awareness and compliance.

The Commissioner is expected to ensure that complaints are managed in a timely, efficient and fair manner, with a strong focus on early resolution where appropriate and maintaining public confidence in the integrity of the complaints process.

The role requires a clear focus on accountability, performance and delivering outcomes that meet community expectations.

The Person

As Anti-Discrimination Commissioner, you will demonstrate a strong capacity to fulfil the statutory functions of the role and a commitment to supporting fair and equitable outcomes for all members of the community.

You will have highly developed interpersonal, negotiation and consultative skills, along with experience providing strategic and policy advice within a complex environment.

You will demonstrate strong leadership and organisational capability, including the ability to manage competing demands, drive continuous improvement and deliver efficient, high-quality outcomes within a statutory framework.

You will also demonstrate sound judgement and accountability in the management of public resources, including an ability to ensure the effective and efficient use of funding in delivering the Commission’s functions.

Your adherence to the highest levels of integrity, impartiality and confidentiality, combined with an understanding of cross-cultural issues as they affect service delivery, will be critical to your success in the role.

Appropriate tertiary qualifications are highly desirable. This position may be based in Darwin or Alice Springs, subject to negotiation.
