Founded 19 years ago, the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is Australia’s largest human rights organisation, providing support to people seeking asylum. We are an independent not-for-profit organisation whose programs support and empower people seeking asylum to maximise their own physical, mental and social well being. We champion the rights of people seeking asylum and mobilise a community of compassion to create lasting social and policy change.
We are a value-driven organisation that strives to be part of a change movement that supports people seeking asylum by providing critical services such as assistance with accommodation, food provisions, casework and legal services.
The ASRC movement is proudly supported by a community of committed volunteers and supporters who embrace the organisation’s vision that people seeking asylum can live safely, sustainably, independently and equally.
The General Access Program (GAP) is the entry point to the services of the ASRC, and as a member of this passionate team, the GAP Coordinator will work dynamically to provide a range of support and information to members, non-members, internal stakeholders and volunteers.
In consultation with the GAP Manager, the GAP Coordinator will assess the needs and eligibility of clients presenting to the ASRC, and determine the most appropriate support plan based on their individual circumstances, needs and vulnerability. This will include performing triage and prioritisation of urgent new client presentations and existing ASRC members, as well as intake and referral to other internal and external services.
In collaboration with the Volunteer Coordinator and other Program Coordinators, the GAP Coordinator will offer training and daily briefings and debriefings to our highly-engaged GAP volunteers, as well as a number of additional tasks in support of the GAP Manager – with the core priority of continuous quality improvement of processes and systems.
