ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Development and Communications Assistant plays a crucial role in assisting ARA’s fundraising, marketing, and social media activities. This role demands strong communication skills, proficiency in social media, and a creative approach to conveying ARA’s key messages.

The Development and Communications Assistant will be instrumental in developing and growing initiatives that enhance the organisation's impact on migrant and refugee communities across Australia.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Social Media & Communications

  • Draft and schedule engaging content for ARA’s social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn).
  • Create visual content using tools like Adobe, iMovie, or Canva to support campaigns and storytelling.
  • Monitor social media engagement and contribute to growing ARA’s online presence.
  • Maintain, promote, and grow stakeholder records in ARA’s Multicultural Resource Directory.
  • Support the development of newsletters, website updates, and other communications materials.
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of other marketing, communications and fundraising activities as requested.
  • Undertake other duties as reasonably directed by the manager, consistent with the role.

Desired Skills and Experience

This is a full-time position (1.0 FTE), classified at SCHADS Award Level 2.1, and based at ARA’s southern outreach office in Mitchell Park.

ABOUT YOU

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in marketing, communication, media or related field, or studying towards relevant qualifications is desirable.
  • Micro-credentials in managing social media, SEO, analytics or similar would be advantageous.

Required skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in digital marketing tools and social media platforms.
  • Excellent organisational and project management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Keen attention to detail but with a creative flair.

Required experience:

  • Experience in marketing, communications, or a related field.
  • Previous involvement in fundraising initiatives or campaigns.
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse communities, particularly refugees or migrants.
  • Experience using software for donor management and content creation (e.g. Canva, Adobe Creative).
  • Experience with CRM systems (e.g. Salesforce) and grant administration desirable but not essential.
  • Previous volunteer or internship experience in non-profit organisations is advantageous.
