Position overview  

Within the ANU College of Law, Governance and Policy, The Centre for Indigenous

Economic Transformation (CIET) is an Indigenous-led national hub advancing First Nations economic self-determination through research, policy, partnerships and education.

Based at The Australian National University, CIET works with First Nations organisations, governments, industry and philanthropy to drive practical, systems-level change across areas including economic empowerment, capital access, trade and investment, clean energy transition opportunities and Indigenous-led governance.

We are seeking a strategic and action-oriented Senior Policy Advisor to support the Centre’s policy and partnerships agenda during a significant growth phase.

The Role

Reporting to the Associate Director, Policy and Partnerships, you will help shape and deliver high-quality policy analysis, reform initiatives and stakeholder engagement activities that connect research and evidence with practical action.

The role will involve:

• developing policy analysis, briefs, submissions and strategic advice
• translating research into practical policy options and reform opportunities
• supporting co-design and engagement processes with First Nations partners and organisations
• building effective relationships across government, industry, philanthropy and the research sector
• coordinating policy projects, workshops, consultations and engagement activities
• contributing to policy development across areas relevant to Indigenous economic empowerment and self-determination

This is a high-impact role suited to someone who enjoys working across policy, partnerships and systems-level change in a collaborative and purpose-driven environment.

About You

You are a thoughtful and highly capable policy professional with strong analytical, stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

You bring:

• experience in policy development, research translation or strategic advisory work
• the ability to produce high-quality policy analysis and practical recommendations
• strong relationship management and stakeholder engagement capability
• sound judgement, cultural integrity and experience working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and organisations
• the ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a dynamic environment

Experience working in Indigenous policy, government, research, economic development or community sectors will be highly regarded.
