Family Practitioner - Functional Family Therapy - Youth Justice

Your role:

Functional Family Therapy (FFT) is a short-term, assertive outreach, evidence-based intervention program with an average of 12 to 20 sessions over three to five months.  FFT is a strengths-based model built on a foundation of acceptance and respect. The program has supported many adolescents and their families in various multi-ethnic and Indigenous cultural contexts globally. FFT works primarily with young people aged 11 to 17 years who are referred by Youth Justice. The FFT® model has been selected as part of Youth Justice supports to young people subject to Youth Justice Orders and/ or bail conditions.

You will receive direct training and coaching from FFT LLC helping you to become skilled in the model.

About you:

  • Previous experience in a therapeutic environment is preferred 
  • Knowledge and experience working with families with complex needs, mental health, AOD, family violence, youth justice
  • Good communication skills and the ability to build relationships and rapport with families and young people
  • Experience and knowledge of the Youth Justice system or working with at risk adolescents
  • Willingness to work outside of normal hours mostly evenings between 4pm and 8pm to see families together and at home
  • Experience working to reduce conflict and to increase hope and a positive family environment
  • Ability to recognise family’s support network, e.g. extended family, teachers, Youth Justice workers
  • Applicants who are proficient in Arabic are encouraged to apply 

Qualifications:

A relevant degree in Social Work, Psychology, and/or a related degree in behavioural sciences.

  • A salary at SCHCADS level 6 which starts at $102,554 plus super
  • Intensive supervision, feedback and training in Functional Family Therapy
  • Based at our office in Broadmeadows, Melbourne
  • Flexible hours, with some early evening work required
  • 1 max term parental leave role available
