The Position

COMPASS is a leaving care initiative between Anglicare Victoria and Vincent Care and is Australia’s largest Social Impact Bond. COMPASS will help young people successfully transition from Out of Home Care and set them on a positive path to independence.

COMPASS is an evidence based program that will be formally and independently evaluated to determine if the model has been able to improve the experience of care leaves and set them on a positive path to adulthood. The evaluation will measure young people’s progress for a total of 4 years, 2 years while they are engaged with COMPASS and 2 years post COMPASS support.

COMPASS will be measured on three outcomes and investors will get a return on the success of these outcomes:

1. Achievement of stable housing – a decrease in homelessness as measured by access to short-term or emergency accommodation from Specialist Homelessness Services.
2. Improved health – physical and mental health improvements as measured by emergency department presentations
3. Decrease in offending behaviour – as measured by the number of convictions recorded.

In this role you will work directly with young people who are leaving Out of Home Care and prepare them for a successful transition to adulthood so they can live the life they want.

To Be Successful in this Position You Will Need:

• A relevant tertiary qualification in social work, youth work, psychology, or related behavioural sciences at a degree or diploma level.
• Demonstrated experience and ability in providing case work with young people who have been involved in the statutory Out-Of-Home-Care system and/or corrective services.
• Demonstrated ability to relate to young people and skilled in motivating young people to engage with their life skill goals and capable of adapting a plan that is outcome focused when a young person’s situation changes.
• Experience using a range of strategies in working with clients around individual and family issues such as abuse, family breakdown and family relationships.
• Commitment to data recording and project compliance with the ability to focus on the overarching objectives of the COMPASS program.
