Anglicare Southern Queensland is proud to deliver the new Staying on Track Program in a number of regions including, Brisbane South, Brisbane North, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich / Inala and Toowoomba. The Staying on Track Programs are part of the Queensland Government's Making Queensland Safe plan funded by the Qld Department of Youth Justice and Victim Support.

The purpose of the Staying On Track (SoT) program is to improve community safety and reduce reoffending by bridging the transition to the community when young people are released from detention to help youth offenders turn their lives away from crime. Anglicare works in partnership with the Department of Youth Justice to ensure every young person will have a plan tailored to meet the assessed risks, needs and level of response required and focus on reducing the risk of reoffending by supporting them to prepare for a productive future in employment and community life.

This role involves active outreach across the community, the courts, detention centres, and watchhouses.

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Practitioner, Youth Justice to join our team on a permanent Full time position based in Brisbane North.

  • Weekend work maybe required.
  • Spread of hours may include shifts between 8am-8pm.

Starting rate of $51.01 per hour.

Responsibilities

As a Practitioner, you will play a critical frontline role supporting young people aged 10-17 who are involved in the youth justice system. Working closely with their families, carers, and relevant stakeholders, you will deliver trauma-informed, culturally safe, and evidence-based case management support-both while young people are in detention and following their release.

  • Deliver best practice, client focused support through therapeutic interventions, intakes, assessments, case planning, and goal setting.
  • Provide trauma-informed and culturally responsive case management tailored to the needs of young people and their families.
  • Support young people and families to understand and meet expectations of court orders, case plans, and service response plans.
  • Deliver structured mentoring to address criminogenic needs by building life skills, relationships, and community connection.
  • Conduct safety planning and risk assessments, and develop appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain accurate and timely case notes, reports, and documentation in line with legislative, contractual, and organisational requirements.
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders including Youth Justice, Youth Detention staff, Child Safety, and community partners.
  • Contribute to a positive, high-performing team culture and engage in ongoing professional development and supervision.
  • Provide flexible and after-hours support when required, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Promote health and safety in all operational practices, including WHS requirements.
  • Undertake other duties as delegated by your line manager, aligned with your role and capabilities.

Qualifications, Credentials and Other Requirements

  • Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Behavioral Science, Psychology, or similar
  • Current Blue Card (Working with Children Check)
  • Current National Police Check
  • Queensland Driver License
  • Willingness and ability to travel within the service region
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, including after hours and on call support

  • Demonstrated ability to provide client support, including therapeutic interventions and case management, with a strong outcomes focus.
  • Skilled in critical thinking and clinical decision making, with the ability to respond effectively in complex or high-risk situations.
  • Solid understanding of relevant legislation, practice frameworks, and sector requirements, with a commitment to compliance and best practice.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage meaningfully with young people, families, and stakeholders.
  • Confident in navigating crucial conversations and addressing challenges constructively and professionally.
  • Committed to reflective practice, emotional intelligence, and continuous learning and development.
  • Proficient in using reporting tools and systems to manage documentation and support service delivery.
