The Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation (ALNF) is a registered national charity dedicated to raising language, literacy and numeracy standards in Australia. ALNF raises funds to develop, implement and sustain a number of ground-breaking programs with tangible results, supporting and up-skilling thousands of adults and children across the nation.
ALNF offers a range of programs which support vulnerable Australians to achieve sustainable, community-led outcomes. These include:
ALNF’s flagship Early Language and Literacy (EL&L) program draws on best practice from speech and language pathology and education. It provides knowledge and practical strategies to support the development of foundational language and literacy skills to early childhood and early primary educators, allied professionals, parents and community members in remote, regional and urban communities. EL&L is offered in English and also Two Ways, in English and First Languages. EL&L support is supplemented with community resources from our Literacy Packs and Share-A-Books programs. ALNF also has a strong history of working to support literacy in Australia’s First Languages through its Living First Languages Program which was developed in response to requests by Warumungu and Warramiri Elders. The Program combines a range of place-based and digital activities designed to support community-driven and sustainable language and literacy teaching and learning in Australia’s First Languages. A key part of this work is the digital Living First Languages Platform. The Platform provides Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities with the technology to record, display and teach language and literacy in their own First Languages. See video case study:
Refugee Action Support is a partnership between ALNF, the NSW Department of Education and participating universities which provides face-to-face learning support in schools which high numbers of students of refugee background.
Subtext: Art for Literacy provides refugee youth in schools in Greater Western Sydney with inspiring and talented arts mentors, who provide productive spaces in which students are able to explore new, creative ways to express their experiences and ideas.
ALNF has a full-time position at our Head Office in Alexandria for a highly organised and motivated Programs Coordinator to join our close knit and dynamic team. This role offers the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of marginalised Australians.
The Programs Coordinator will ensure the smooth day to day operation of program delivery processes across the Programs Team and provide support to the Programs Management Team, in particular in relation to high quality program monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
This position requires exceptional organisational skills, strong oral and written communication skills, great general computing and database skills, and the ability to track multiple responsibilities across a busy workday, supporting others along the way. See further detail below.
This role involves working with children from time to time and will require a NSW Working with Children Check and a National Police Check.
