About us

Alfred Mental & Addiction Health is responsible for the operation of services, which focus on people with a severe mental illness residing in the Inner South Eastern area of Melbourne.

The single most important goal of AMAH is to create an environment that facilitates clinical recovery, supports individual recovery efforts and strives to minimise service system barriers to the recovery process.

What you’ll be doing

Using your lived experience of mental distress and recovery, you will provide psychosocial support and non-crisis interventions to consumers in the Adult Inpatient Unit (IPU) and post discharge space, which is for up to 28 days following discharge. You will be supported with line management and peer supervision in this role.

In this role, you will draw from your own lived and/or living experience to provide consumer directed tailored support to consumers in the IPU and post discharge in collaboration with existing treatment plans and support structures.

In addition, you will work with and alongside the multidisciplinary teams within the IPU to identify consumers who would benefit from peer support post discharge. Whilst Lived Experience Peer Support Workers are not clinicians, they are as much a valued part of our team. Our Lived Experience Peer Support Workers have a key responsibility to help inform our service design and delivery. In this context, sharing insights that are drawn from your own lived experience may be really important in enabling another staff member or team to develop an understanding of a person’s experiences, or how we may be working and the potential impact of this on a person’s experience.
