The Australasian Lymphology Association (ALA) is the peak body advancing best‑practice lymphoedema care across Australia and New Zealand. We bring together clinicians and researchers to improve outcomes for people living with lymphatic disfunction. We are seeking to appoint an experienced Director to join the Board with a focus on risk and governance.

This voluntary Board role offers an opportunity to contribute to the strategic direction and long-term sustainability of the ALA committed to improving health outcomes and delivering meaningful community impact.

About the Role:

As an Appointed Director, you will work collaboratively with fellow Board members and the Executive team to provide strong governance, strategic oversight and stewardship of the organisation. The successful candidate will bring deep experience in risk and governance, with the ability to support robust decision-making, accountability and organisational resilience.

The role will have a particular focus on:

  • Risk management and oversight
  • Governance frameworks and Board effectiveness
  • Compliance and regulatory obligations
  • Organisational performance and accountability
  • Strategic planning and sustainability

About You:

We are seeking an experienced professional who can bring sound judgement, independence and a strong governance mindset to the Board.

You will ideally have:

  • Significant senior leadership, executive, Board or committee experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in risk, governance, compliance or assurance
  • Strong understanding of Board responsibilities and not-for-profit governance
  • Experience in health care, community services, aged care, disability, public health or a related sector
  • Strong communication, collaboration and decision-making skills
  • A genuine commitment to the organisation’s purpose and values

Previous Board experience, membership of ALA, governance qualifications, or membership of the Australian Institute of Company Directors will be highly regarded.

Time Commitment:

This is a voluntary Board position for a 2 year term. The expected time commitment includes

  • attendance at scheduled bi-monthly Board meetings
  • attendance at 2 face to face meetings each year
  • attendance at relevant Board committees, preparation time
  • occasional strategic planning or organisational events.
