We're looking for a Sexual Health and BBV Program Officer to plan, develop, and implement strategies which enhance quality improvement interventions and clinical management activities to reduce STIs and BBVs in Aboriginal people in WA.

This role involves working directly with Aboriginal men and male community groups, including supporting men’s yarning groups and delivering culturally safe sexual health and BBV education. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men are strongly encouraged to apply, as the role includes engagement activities where male facilitators may support cultural protocols, community expectations and participant comfort.

In this role, you will:

• Plan, prepare, promote and deliver the training within the Birds and the BBVs course;
• Assist in the development and delivery of professional development programs to AHCWA's Member Services;
• Promote and support appropriate existing and planned clinical management of STIs and BBVs;
• Provide support, advice and mentoring to Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services' (ACCHS) sexual health and clinical staff;
• Develop networks in Aboriginal communities to build community support for sexual health promotion activities;
• Build trusted relationships with Aboriginal men, male community groups and relevant stakeholders to support culturally safe sexual health promotion activities;
• Support culturally safe sexual health and BBV education activities with Aboriginal men and male community groups, including men's yarning groups where appropriate;
• Support health care professionals to have the appropriate skills to understand the consequences, modes of transmission, symptoms, treatment and prevention of STIs and BBVs; and
• Identify areas for data collection and analysis to build evidence-based cases to demonstrate CQI in sexual health and BBV prevention and management.

About You

We're looking for someone who has:

• Minimum 2 years' experience in BBVs and STIs;
• Knowledge of clinical quality improvement practices in primary health care, with a focus on sexual health and BBVs;
• Strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills;
• Experience in planning, implementing and evaluating public health programs, education and training for a diverse range of audiences;
• Understanding of the current trends and issues impacting the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal communities throughout WA;
• Demonstrated ability to engage respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal men and male community groups in relation to culturally sensitive health education;
• Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently; and
• A demonstrated ability to uphold the principles of cultural safety including an ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Ideally, in addition to the above, we are looking for someone who:

• Identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and is accepted as such by their community;
• Has demonstrated experience in Aboriginal Community Controlled sectors;
• Possesses a relevant clinical qualification;
• Holds a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or is working towards it; and/or
• Has knowledge of the Australian Qualifications Framework and best practice.

The position involves working within a multicultural organisation where the majority of employees, clients and stakeholders identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Please note: In addition to the above skills and experience, the successful candidate will require an unrestricted WA “C” Class Driver’s Licence, and be required to submit a National Police Clearance (dated within 3 months) prior to appointment.
