Act for Peace

About Act for Peace

Act for Peace is the humanitarian agency of the National Council of Churches in Australia and has worked for more than 75 years alongside communities affected by conflict, displacement and disaster. As global conflict, displacement and social fragmentation intensify, Act for Peace is entering an important new strategic chapter —strengthening its role as a movement for peace, justice and belonging through locally led partnerships, public engagement, advocacy and collective action. With a newly appointed Chief Executive Officer and a refined strategic direction, the organisation is seeking additional Board Directors to help steward this next phase of organisational evolution, governance and impact.

This is an opportunity to contribute to:

  • values-led governance and strategic leadership
  • organisational transformation and sustainability
  • movement mobilisation and public engagement
  • advocacy, partnerships and collective action

The Board currently brings strong expertise across international development, governance, philanthropy, theology, finance and social impact leadership. We are now seeking to broaden and complement the Board’s collective capability and diversity of perspectives.

We welcome expressions of interest from candidates with expertise in areas such as:

  • Governance, legal and regulatory leadership organisational transformation and strategic change
  • Public policy, advocacy and influence movement mobilisation and community engagement
  • Strategic partnerships and relationship stewardship
  • Digital, technology and innovation philanthropy and strategic fundraising safeguarding, ethics and accountability frameworks.

As the humanitarian agency of the National Council of Churches in Australia, Board Directors are drawn from Christian faith traditions and communities. Within this context, we strongly encourage expressions of interest from:

  • First Nations peoples
  • People with lived experience of displacement, migration or conflict
  • Culturally and linguistically diverse communities
  • younger leaders
  • and candidates from diverse professional, geographic and Christian faith backgrounds.
