The Australian Environmental Films Association (AEFA)

About AEFA

The Australian Environmental Films Association is a Melbourne based, not-for-profit that makes environmental films. These films increase connection with nature, inspire people to live sustainably and create systems change. Our vision is to help create an Australia in which we all value nature and our place within it, and all decisions are made with consideration for the environment.

We are informed on the current science to ensure we present factual information. We appreciate that the environmental issues facing our world today will only be solved by a societal shift in attitudes and behaviours towards nature. We understand that although small scale tangible projects are important, true and lasting change will only come from shifting the values of entire communities. We appreciate and act on research that shows film is a powerful medium for creating this shift. We encourage values of universalism and benevolence as well as connection to nature which help people make positive choices in their lives not only in relation to nature but also in relation to other important areas such as human rights. We practice what we preach, operating in a sustainable manner.

The Project

Our current film project explores the importance of school-based education programs in fostering pro-environmental attitudes and behaviours. Focused on the ‘green teams’ at two inner-city primary schools, this film will follow year six students as they implement sustainability projects at their school and educate the wider school community. By exploring sustainability from the students perspective we aim to highlight their passion for the environment, the need for strong action to protect their futures, and the structural barriers they face.

We are looking for a video editor to work with the project director and the wider organisation to help tell this story.

Our organisation is full run by volunteers. However, as this project is made possible by The City of Yarra Sustainability Grants, we can offer a small remuneration for work associated with this position.
