Role Overview:

The Personal Support Manager is a dynamic and pivotal leadership role that demands a deep commitment to Adam’s vision. This role is comprehensive, including direct support, team leadership, administrative management, and strategic planning. The Personal Support Manager will work closely with Adam’s Circle of Support, particularly his primary family contact, to ensure that Adam’s life is rich, full, and organised according to his needs and aspirations.

Adam is a humorous and loving individual with a wide range of interests and goals that drive his daily activities and interactions.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct Support and Active Engagement: Conduct two 6-hour shifts weekly with Adam, actively involving him in home-based tasks, establishing social connections, decision-making, developing communication skills, participating genuinely in community activities, and fulfilling positive social roles.
  • Leadership and Team Management: Oversee support worker rostering and the recruitment, induction and continuous mentoring of Adam's support team. Lead by example in the practice of active support, coaching team members to support Adam's participation in all activities. Handle performance management and staff issues in collaboration with Adam's Circle of Support.
  • Strategic Communication: Act as the chief liaison for Adam's support network, including therapy teams, support workers, and family/Circle members. Ensure effective and clear communication channels are maintained, facilitating monthly team meetings and updates.
  • Administrative and Operational Management: Manage all administrative aspects of Adam's support, including detailed rostering to ensure Adam's needs are prioritised. Oversee financial management of supplies including budgeting, and ensuring Adam has the necessary supplies for his daily activities and health needs.
  • Health and Safety Oversight: Ensure that workplace health and safety standards are strictly adhered to. Organise compulsory WH&S training for the team, manage health care appointments for Adam, and ensure adherence to his proactive and preventative health care plans.
  • Car maintenance: The Personal Support Manager is responsible for the maintenance and repair of Adam’s car and for liaising with insurers if needed. Additionally, the Executive Officer will ensure that registration, CTP, and compulsory insurance are paid, and that the information provided is correct and up-to-date.
  • Community Engagement and Social Inclusion: Facilitate Adam's engagement in community events, work, and volunteer roles, supporting him to develop and maintain meaningful social connections. Lead initiatives to support Adam in developing his interests and participating in activities that contribute to his sense of belonging and community contribution. This includes actively seeking out new opportunities for Adam’s employment and community engagement.
  • Strategic Planning and Reporting: Work with Adam's family and Circle of Support to develop strategic plans that align with Adam's goals and aspirations. Produce regular reports for the family and involved professionals, highlighting progress, challenges, and strategic directions. Report to the circle of support during the quarterly meetings.
  • Support Structure Coordination: Ensure that Adam's support structure operates smoothly, with a focus on his personal development, health, and well-being. This includes managing schedules for therapy sessions, work, and social activities, as well as managing domestic tasks and living arrangements.
  • Professional Development and Team Support: Foster a culture of learning and development within the team, arranging for professional development opportunities and encouraging a supportive, collaborative work environment.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in disability support, with specific knowledge of autism spectrum disorder preferred.
  • Proven track record in team leadership, staff management and development.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology, disability services, education or related fields are desirable.
