  • The role involves travelling to provide training to our affiliate groups around Australia. As such we are flexible regarding where the Educator is based.

The ACTU is launching the Australian Trade Union Institute (ATUI), its education and training arm focussed on growth.

The ACTU seeks to ensure that its education and training work is focused on growth. All Educators will be integrated into and work closely with numerous other workgroups and teams across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and sharing of cutting-edge resources within the movement
  • Work with individual unions on education and development, capacity building and change.
  • Develop and deliver high quality and well attended education programs that contribute to the organisation’s growth and capacity agenda
  • Understand and meet the needs of adult learners
  • Help build a team of expert practitioners to share best practice and teaching from leading experts within and outside the movement.
  • Facilitate, support and work at various times on affiliates and movement organising projects, pilots and campaigns.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of our objectives and planning.
  • Support program participants in a variety of settings and through the active development of supportive learning environments
  • Establish and maintain appropriate interpersonal relationships between the ACTU and its affiliates.
  • Undertake assessment and evaluation of learning outcomes
  • Maintain and develop high professional standards and up-to-date expertise

Mandatory skills and qualifications

  • Demonstrated high- level organising and / or education capacity
  • Demonstrate high- level ability to facilitate informal or formal training.
  • Experience in developing and implementing plans: This could include strategic, operational, campaign, education or organising plans
  • Demonstrated ability to develop others
  • Demonstrated commitment to the Australian trade union movement, its values, policies, programs and organisational structures.
  • High-level interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to be proactive and show initiative and good organisational skills.
  • Commitment and ability to provide feedback in an adult learning environment and a demonstrated ability to motivate others.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with people from a diverse range of backgrounds
  • Skills in the use of relevant information and communication technologies

Regular Interstate travel is a requirement of the position.

Reports to: Manager of Education and Capacity Building.
