About the role and program

The Bendigo Independent Units program is a brand-new initiative that combines both ACSO housing and 1;1 targeted support via NDIS funded packages for male clients on Post Sentence Orders with the program initially funded for 12 months to accommodate and support two clients.

Through the 1:1 face to face support clients will be supported to develop goals in line with their NDIS plan to build / consolidate their capacity their capacity to better manage their mental health symptoms (if applicable) develop practical life skills for independent living and self-care, engage in community life, access other health and social support services as well as complying with the conditions of their legal orders / conditions. Following a 12-month involvement in the program the aim is for clients to secure long term accommodation in the community.

What we're looking for

  • Ideally, a minimum of 1-2 years' relevant or equivalent experience
  • Forensic experience (Police/Department of Justice) would be advantageous
  • The ability to enter and work in a prison environment
  • Experience developing support plans and goal attainment strategies
  • Confidence and ability to build positive relationships and communicate with people of diverse backgrounds and abilities
  • Knowledge and competency in casework practices
  • Demonstrated capacity to work flexibly, possess the ability to manage competing demands, and able to effectively set boundaries and limits where required
  • An extensive background working with Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people will be highly regarded
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • While most work will be undertaken within standard business hours, there is a requirement for flexibility and willingness to work afternoon and weekend shifts as needed.

Please note, this position will require the ability to work 7am to 6pm shifts. There may be occasions where work is required to occur outside of these hours dependent on the residents' needs.
