About the College

The Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) is a not-for-profit organisation responsible for the training, assessment and continuing professional development of emergency physicians, as well as the advancement of professional standards in emergency medicine in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.

We are a specialist medical College of over 130 employees driven by a strong purpose, positive environment, and a CEO and Executive Leadership team dedicated to upholding our commitment to supporting our membership base, staff, and core values of Equity, Respect, Integrity, and Collaboration.

The Position

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the College as the Project Officer, Workforce and Rural Health, within the Department of Policy, Research and Partnerships. Working closely with the Manager, Workforce and Rural Health Strategy, you will help coordinate and deliver ACEM’s Rural Health Action Plan (RuHAP) and Workforce Strategy – key initiatives addressing the workforce challenges facing emergency medicine and health equity across regional, rural and remote Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.

This is a hands-on role combining project coordination, analytical insight, stakeholder engagement and committee secretariat support. Responsibilities span:

  • Leading the delivery of Rural Health Action Plan and Workforce Strategy initiatives, ensuring all deliverables are met in line with project plans.
  • Overseeing project documentation in accordance with the ACEM Project Management Framework, including project plans, communication plans, risk reports, status reports and invoices.
  • Providing committee secretariat support to the Workforce Committee and the Regional, Rural and Remote Advisory Committee, including agendas, papers, minutes, action items and Chair briefings.
  • Supporting the preparation of reports to ACEM Councils, the ACEM Board and external bodies such as the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing.
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and resolving project and stakeholder enquiries in a timely way.
  • Providing clear, structured updates on progress, risks and emerging issues.

This full-time, permanent role is based in Melbourne (Naarm / Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung Country), with occasional interstate and trans-Tasman travel required to support College priorities. Some work outside normal business hours may be required to meet business objectives.

Skills and Attributes

This role will suit an organised, analytical and collaborative professional who can manage multiple projects while supporting committees in a busy, dynamic environment. We’re looking for someone who:

  • Holds a relevant tertiary qualification in health, social science, policy or a related discipline.
  • Has demonstrated experience leading and coordinating multiple projects and initiatives to meet deliverables within agreed timelines, working with colleagues and stakeholders across different areas of expertise.
  • Can gather and analyse information across multiple domains, and clearly present analytical findings.
  • Brings highly developed written communication skills, including the ability to prepare accurate reports and correspondence.
  • Has excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with management, staff, entity members, senior medical specialists, trainees and external stakeholders.
  • Has demonstrated experience providing secretariat services to committees, including agendas, minutes and action lists.
  • Is proficient in Microsoft Office and able to develop and maintain administrative systems and processes in both paper-based and online formats.
  • Is flexible, self-motivated and able to work effectively both within a team and under limited supervision.
  • Has experience in, or an understanding of, the Australian / Aotearoa New Zealand health system(s) and membership or not-for-profit medical organisations (desirable).
