The Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) is a member-based organisation whose principal role is the training, assessment and professional development of emergency doctors for Australia and New Zealand.

THE POSITION:

Working in partnership with passionate emergency doctors and a committed team of policy officers and committee administrators, you will have the opportunity to shape and influence health policy and system reform to improve care for vulnerable and diverse populations across Australia and New Zealand.

Our work touches on a wide range of issues: access block in emergency departments, quality and safety in under-resourced hospitals and workforce issues in rural and regional hospitals. Our policy and advocacy aims to influence decision makers in health departments, hospital executives and other medical specialties to ensure that health systems support timely access to emergency care.

THE KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE SHALL INCLUDE, BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

  • Preparing submissions, reports, correspondence, presentations, policy statements and other documents as required for policy development and advocacy campaigns
  • Monitoring policy developments in the health sectors in Australia and New Zealand and provide rapid responses to issues as they arise
  • Providing support with the development of standards, policies and guidelines to support members in addressing systemic issues in their workplace, hospital and broader system

Candidates who meet the below criteria are strongly encouraged to apply:

  • Tertiary qualifications in public health, public policy, international development or a related discipline
  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills to identify problems and solutions in a range of policy and advocacy environments
  • Knowledge of policy, legislative or political processes as they relate to the health sector
