Specialist Health Service (SHS)

Managed by Abt Associates Australia and located in the centre of Canberra, the Specialist Health Service (SHS) provides strategic input on health to the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).

DFAT posts and desks around the globe and in Canberra contact the SHS for assistance with any health-related topic. SHS responds to these requests through either the direct, rapid provision of policy advice or briefings to DFAT, or through the identification, contracting and management of adviser(s) to undertake field-based work (reviews, designs, evaluations or specific technical advice).

The Opportunity

We are currently inviting applications for the role of Finance and Administration Officer, to provide general finance and administration office support to the Specialist Health Service daily operations, reporting to the SHS Operations Manager.

Individuals considering this role must have excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills and attention to detail; and be able to demonstrate relevant experience against the key requirements of the role.

Key Requirements

The preferred applicant will have:

  • 2 - 5 years relevant experience in finance and administration, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
  • Familiarity with oracle financial management systems (ie NetSuite or equivalent)
  • High level communication skills (both written and verbal) and the ability to write clearly, concisely and quickly in English
  • Intermediate advanced MS office skills (ie word, excel and outlook)
  • Ability to operate effectively in a small team, contributing positively to team operations and working relationships
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills and willingness to work in a busy, high-volume environment requiring multi-tasking, prioritising and dealing with shifting priorities
