An exciting opportunity has become available to work for Barnardos, one of Australia’s leading children’s charities. Barnardos Australia builds relationships between children, young people, their families and the community. They advocate for children and young people and contribute to community knowledge about their issue.

The Role

A 12 month full time Caseworker is required for Yurungai Child and Family Services based in Barnardos Sydney Metro Centre in Ultimo,Central Sydney.

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Caseworker will effectively undertake casework responsibilities to ensure a high standard of service is provided to families and children in need.

The service is funded by NSW Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) and provides casework services to children 0-18 and their families. The service aims to prevent family breakdown and to keep children from entering the Out of Home Care system. The service also supports kin and relative carers who have the care of children who cannot live with their parents.

The Candidate

The successful Caseworker will ideally have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology or Social Welfare related discipline.
  • Knowledge of child development and parenting capacity.
  • Knowledge of trauma informed practice, how this is delivered and the effects trauma can have on child development and family functioning.
  • Demonstrated experience of working with children and young people and their family in a child protection context and knowledge of current child protection legislation.
  • Demonstrated experience of working with families in need of support services.

High numbers of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families (up to 60%) are supported through this program, therefore Barnardos welcomes and will prioritise applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates.

Salary: Base $66,300 to $82,500 plus leave loading plus superannuation. Packaging available to receive $15,860 of your salary tax free. Motor vehicle packaging available on selected roles.

To be considered for roles with Barnardos you will need to have (or be willing to have conducted) a National Police Clearance and current Working with Children check Clearance (or APP number) and for the ACT a Drivers History Check, Working with Vulnerable People Card and CYPS Check.
