The Aboriginal Art Centre Hub of WA is seeking a motivated and experienced Manager to join its small team from July 2020 for an initial 12 month full-time contract (July 2020 – June 2021).

The successful candidate will work with the CEO to a) lead the AACHWA team managing staff, project budgets, project deliverables and reporting; b) identify strategic opportunities for the organisation and contribute to the writing of grant applications; c) ensure the smooth operation of the organisation and its services to member Aboriginal art centres.

About AACHWA

AACHWA is the peak advocacy and resource agency for Aboriginal art centres in Western Australia. AACHWA delivers professional development programs, provides recruitment advice and services, and acts as an advocate for its WA Art Centre members.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

  • Position title: AACHWA Art Centre Support Program Coordinator
  • Location: 276 Great Eastern Highway, Midland Western Australia
  • Hours: Full-time, approx. 37.5 hours per week (negotiable)
  • Reports to: AACHWA Chief Executive Officer
  • Direct reporting staff: Administrative Coordinator, Programs Coordinator, Marketing Officer (Additional staff as required by CEO)

POSITION BACKGROUND

The AACHWA Manager is a newly created full-time position funded through the WA Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries Arts Organisational Investment Program (AOIP). The position is only funded for an initial 12 month full-time contract for a term from July 2020 to June 2021 with the possibility of extension (dependent on funding).

The successful candidate must be a collaborative worker who is also self-motivated and can demonstrate independent initiative. They must have the ability to provide leadership in their area of responsibility (providing key support and building relationships with relevant Art Centre personnel), and can work effectively with the breadth of people working in and around AACHWA, including the board, staff and Art Centre membership as well as the many regional Aboriginal artists and community members who initiate, coordinate and participate in AACHWA activities.

Selection criteria

Essential:

  • Demonstrated understanding of Human Resource management and experience leading a team with examples of positive results
  • Able to demonstrate high level project management experience
  • Able to demonstrate excellent writing skills with experience writing in grants; grant acquittals; projectplanning documents and project reports.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite (PC). Specifically, able to demonstrate high level knowledge and usability of MS Excel for the purposes of project and budget management.
  • Ability to resolve conflict situations, analyse problems and provide practical solutions
  • Knowledge and experience of managing data and filing systems
  • Well developed strategic thinking and ability to identify opportunities, plan, execute and review in a way which delivers on strategic outcomes and increases impact
  • Must be prepared to undergo police clearance and working with children clearance.

Desirable:

  • Minimum Advanced Diploma in Business Management or equivalent.
  • Available and willingness to travel inter and intra state including weekend when required for work purposes
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and communities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts
  • A current ‘C’ Class Driver’s License
  • Experience driving in remote Australia, including off road driving using automatic and manual vehicles
