About the role:

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Senior Advisor – Native Title to join the Aboriginal Affairs team. This role will assist the Water Corporation in managing native title and Aboriginal heritage impacts through Aboriginal community engagement.

What the role will offer:

  • Provide advice to internal stakeholders in relation to Native Title, Aboriginal heritage impacts and on Aboriginal processes, policy and statutory requirements.
  • Obtains other statutory approvals (e.g. clearing permits, works approvals, notifications).
  • Inspect project areas with Aboriginal informants and consultants.
  • Coordinates and facilitates meetings / presentations within Water Corporation project areas.
  • Conduct Aboriginal engagement briefings for Customer Engagement and special projects including remote communities.
  • Assists in the development of strategic direction, policy and position statements.
  • Engage with Native Title and Traditional Owner Groups as key stakeholders to inform our strategic development and management.
  • Assists with carrying out Reconciliation Action Plan initiatives.
  • Provides ongoing support on Projects where Aboriginal engagement forms parts of the key deliverables.

Key skills and experience:

  • Highly developed analytical and report writing skills
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage at all levels
  • Culturally aware and strong experience in working with Aboriginal communities in both urban and remote settings
  • Demonstrated previous practical experience in Native Title and Aboriginal heritage management
  • Demonstrated understanding and application of the Native Title Act 1994, Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972 and the Racial Discrimination Act 1975
  • Tertiary degree in a related field or a minimum of three years’ experience in a similar role.
