We are in an exciting period of change in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment and Engagement Team and are looking for an experienced Senior Project Officer (Identified) to coordinate the implementation and delivery of a broad range of academic activities and tasks to meet established milestones and deliverables in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Plan 2022-2024.

The Senior Project Officer (Identified) will be responsible for delivering project management support to multiple work streams including establishing project teams, developing and implementing project plans, managing academic stakeholders and communications, ensuring effective collaboration and team work with other project teams and stakeholders across the University.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • develop and maintain effective and productive relationships with multiple project stakeholders across the University, external partners and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • partner with team members to build work stream specific project plans, ensuring an accurate and consistent definition of project phases, objectives, work activities, timing, milestones and deliverables
  • build rapport and business relationships across the work area to keep abreast of critical issues and priorities, to effectively manage stakeholders
  • provide expert advice on the establishment and communication of the project management methodology, including project processes, document and reporting templates, programs, resources and planning tools to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Academics
  • support the mapping of key project resources required to establish and commence the project, including technology, research equipment, physical work space, and other physical resource

About you

  • identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
  • demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies and cultures, including an understanding of the issues affecting people in contemporary Australian society and the diversity of circumstances of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • demonstrated interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills and a demonstrated level of tact and discretion in dealing with a variety of matters
  • knowledge and understanding of Australian Aboriginal cultural diversity and Torres Strait Islander cultural diversity
  • experience managing a diverse group of key internal/external stakeholders on large or complex projects

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the reasons for the position.
