Role Overview:

This Care Peer Worker is responsible for the provision of education, training and individual support services to families and carers of people with mental illness, aiming to improve care well being, resilience, coping skills and relationships. 

As the Carer Peer Worker, your duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with the assessment of Carers, the development of individual support plans and delivery of individual support based on individual Carer goals.
  • Assist with the monitoring and review of Carer support plans.
  • Ability to draw on your own experience caring for a loved one and discuss your individual journey as a Carer to support others

Essential Criteria:

Qualifications:

Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or working towards

Experience:

Typically this role will require 2 or more years’ experience in your field of expertise.  You will be continuing to develop in your area of expertise and be expected to provide innovative ideas to solve problems in your discipline.  It is expected that you will be developing good skills at navigating a complex organisation, forging relationships, and managing through influence rather than direct authority as required.

  • Lived Experience as a Carer for a person with mental illness
  • Ability to facilitate support groups for families and Carers
  • Understanding and application of the principles of Recovery Oriented Mental Health Practice
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise with other organisations/health care professionals
  • Demonstrated ability to develop support plans and utilise outcome measures

 Even better:

  • Certificate IV in Community Services, or other relevant area
  • Experience in Suicide Intervention, or completion of ASIST training
  • ‘Mental Health First Aid’ training
