Research and Policy Officer

UnionsWA is the peak union body in Western Australia. It is comprised of 31 affiliated unions, representing over 150,000 union members.

The Research and Policy Officer role is to provide advice and support to UnionsWA and affiliated unions by providing high-quality research, submission writing in areas such as industrial relations, government procurement, workers compensation and work health and safety. This includes the development of policy positions in consultation and collaboration with affiliate unions.

The role will also be required to undertake economic research to assist advocacy for the State Wage Case, public sector wages campaigns and affiliate unions organising strategies. You should demonstrate high levels of initiative, be able to liaise with a range of stakeholders in government, industry and the community sector.

Selection Criteria

Essential:

  • Capacity for economic research such as labour market trends and corporate activity
  • Provide strategic and evidence-based research and advice
  • Experience in legislative reform and policy submissions to Government reviews and parliamentary inquires
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with affiliated unions and other key stakeholders.
  • Commitment to the principles of unionism
  • Knowledge of issues facing the Australian union movement.
  • Excellent Written and communication skills

Desirable:

  • Experience in union organising or as a union industrial officer;
  • Experience in Work, Health and Safety policy;
  • Experience in Workers' Compensation.

This full time position is based in the Perth CBD. However, requests for part-time or flexible work arrangements will be considered.
